Here is Tulsi’s story, in her own words: ‘I am Tulsi, from Assam. I have studied up to Class 7. My husband works as a salesman in a fast food gallery. We have 2 children, a son studying in class 8 and a daughter in class 4. My husband’s salary was not sufficient to fulfil our family needs, so I was always keen to find some way to contribute to our family’s finances. But with limited education and no skills, no work came my way.

Then, one day someone told me about the various women-related training programs being offered by SNS Foundation, which became the turning point of my life. Without wasting much time I enrolled in the six months basic beauty culture course.  My trainer at the center was very supportive and guided me through the course. Half-way through my course, she even helped me get a part-time job at a local beauty parlor with a monthly stipend of Rs 1500. Armed with a skill, on completing my course, I immediately found employment at a monthly salary of Rs 5000. Another job change a few months hence, meant I was soon earning Rs 8000 per month.

Motivated by support and success, I decided to upgrade my skills and joined the 3 months advanced beauty culture course at the SNS Foundation. My big break came in August 2016, when I was selected by a VLCC franchise, based on an interview, at a salary of Rs 15,000 per month. In addition, I have taken up a part time job in the evenings at a monthly salary of Rs 4000.

I cannot express the joy and delight at becoming an earning member of the family! From helpless despair to financial security and self-confidence – I have come a long way, all thanks to the SNS Foundation.
