Livelihood and Enterprise Development Programme

On June 20th, SNS Foundation Dewas completed the training of the first batch of 30 women under its newly awarded project by NABARD – Livelihood & Enterprise Development Programme (LEDP). During the 15-day training session, women who have now long been engaged in micro-finance activities were trained in the designing and production of several household items – bedspreads, comforters, sofa covers, doormats and planters. Some of the items taught were developed out of waste materials such as used tyres. In addition to the technical sessions, the training programme also included motivational talks, discussions over successful women enterprises in India and on the most important aspect of marketing. With each passing day of the training programme, the participants showed greater interest and enthusiasm and refused to budge from their seats until they had perfected their products, unperturbed by the moving hands of the clock.

The closing day saw the participation of District Development Manager, NABARD, Dewas, bank officials and block level government officials. The dignitaries appreciated the work of SNS Foundation and the high spirits demonstrated by the women in taking their lives forward.

Two more batches of 30 women each will be provided similar training, after which all ninety will be grouped to form a federation to ease marketing issues.
