Self-Help Groups (SHGs) at Upcoming Model Village Chalkewadi receive loans from UMED-MSRLM

To promote the economic development of women, 7 Self- Help Groups (SHGs) with a total membership of 70 women were formed at the Upcoming Model Village Chalkewadi, near Satara in 2019. Guided by the SNSF team, these groups successfully put into practice the training they received from UMED-MSRLM (Maharashtra State Rural Livelihoods Mission). Now in 2020, each group has been awarded a loan of 1 lakh to start micro-enterprises in several areas including poultry and dairy.

POSHAN Maah Celebrations

SNSF celebrated the 3rd Rashtriya POSHAN Maah (National Nutrition Month) during September 2020 across all its locations by organising exhibitions and talks on the importance of eating nutritious meals, particularly immunity booster foods to fight the COVID-19 infection. This annual national event, sponsored by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, addresses malnutrition amongst young children and women, thus ensuring health and nutrition for everyone.

With schools closed community classes are the new classrooms: with no walls and no roofs

With the lengthy closure of schools and the digital divide making online education inaccessible to many students, SNSF has resorted to COMMUNITY TEACHING to minimise the loss of learning. With due permission from panchayats and local administration, SNSF teachers and volunteers hold classes in open or largish closed spaces so that children continue their education. This approach is supported by parents and associated communities.

Stitching of reusable cloth face masks crosses the 1 lakh mark at SNSF

SNSF teams from Parwanoo, Gurugram, Rewari, Dewas, Nashik, Chakan and Jodhalli launched a campaign to take orders for cloth face masks to support families whose sources of livelihood were affected by the COVID-19 lockdown in April 2020. Since then more than 1 lakh face masks have been stitched, thereby helping 50+families to survive. Main clients include ANAND Group companies as well as other private vendors.

Inauguration of Retail Outlet

SNS Foundation’s partnership with NABARD on the Livelihood Entrepreneurship Development Programme (LEDP) took a strong step forward with the inauguration of a retail outlet in the main market of Dewas. This is an opportunity for women trained under LEDP to increase the visibility of their products, mainly handicrafts and soft furnishings, and thus enhance their income.

Training Programme at Village Rohile

To promote income generation opportunities for women in Rohile village, a two-day training programme was organised through BOSCH Foundation in which 20 women were taught how to stitch godharis (lightweight quilts). This is part of SNSF’s initiative to develop Rohile, near Nashik, as a model village.

Second Investor Summit of Udham Singh Nagar District

At this summit, held at Radisson Hotel, Pantnagar, SNSF Rudrapur and Dana Anand India Private Limited were recognized with a Certificate of Appreciation for their CSR activities in the government schools of Rudrapur city. The Uttarkhand State Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat presented the certificate to Ms. Vijaya Sundararajan, SNSF location manager, and Ms. Rubi Borah, Head HR, SIPL (North).

Program ABLE Workshop

The SNSF team involved in Program ABLE (Ability Based Livelihood Empowerment), an initiative of the American India Foundation (AIF), conducted a workshop at Hotel Oberoi, New Delhi, and SRS Logicare (manpower provider to Reliance warehouses) to sensitize the teams there on how to integrate persons with disabilities (PwDs) into the workplace. SNSF ABLE alumni are already working in these two organizations.

Bhoomi Pujan at Chalkewadi

A major initiative of SNSF is developing Chalkewadi, near Satara, as a model village. Key functionaries from the local administration, including Mr Sanjay Dhamal (Block Development Officer, Satara), attended the Bhoomi Pujan. It was Mr Dhamal’s first visit to Chalkewadi, and he discussed how the community could make their village a part of the final list being considered for development as a Smart Gram.
