It was a proud moment for SNS Foundation and members of Tejaswini Cooperative Society to welcome Dr. Chintala, the highest functionary of NABARD, to SNSF Dewas. The Foundation’s 11-year partnership with NABARD through the bank’s M.P. state unit, has improved the livelihood options of rural women by training them and giving them access to micro-credit facilities, to help them start individual enterprises. In recent years, the partnership has focused on digitisation of financial records of women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and initiating a women’s cooperative society, Tejaswini Mahila Bahuprayojan Sahkari Samiti. As part of his visit, Dr. Chintala inaugurated the newest outlet of Tejaswini in the main market selling soft furnishings, handicrafts and other items. He also handed over a credit cheque of 5 lacs from the Madhya Pradesh Gramin Bank to the members of the cooperative society to aid expansion of their business. In appreciation, Dr. Chintala was presented with a comforter, one of the society’s most popular products. Dr. Chintala in his address stated that it was an honour for NABARD to work with partner NGOs like SNS Foundation.

The Chairman was accompanied by Mr. T. Raji Gain, Chief General Manager, NABARD, M.P., and Mr. Avinash Tiwary, District Development Manager, NABARD Dewas.

SNS Foundation’s office-cum-skills training centre in Parwanoo is located in Sector 2, an area surrounded by the slum colonies of Pole Factory, Kali Mitti, Sewanagar and Bohri. In order to administer free vaccinations to the residents of these colonies, SNSF organised a camp in partnership with ESI Hospital, Parwanoo, on the premises of the Foundation. The hospital medical team and staff of SNS Foundation supervised the drive and about 125 people received their COVID vaccinations.

A two-day free COVID vaccination camp was organised by the Gurugram unit of SNS Foundation. It was held at the Foundation’s skill development centre located in the downtown area adjacent to the main bus stand, making it easily accessible for the general public. The camp was a huge success, and almost 488 people, especially those who found it difficult to do so earlier because of reasons of cost or unavailability, were administered doses of Covishield as per eligibility.

The camp was held in partnership with fellow NGO, I am Gurgaon, Genpact, the principal sponsors of the programme, and Medanta Hospital.

Nearly 64% of Karnataka’s villages were caught in the grip of the second wave of COVID-19, as shown by a rural development department survey, unlike the first wave which barely touched rural areas. This prompted DAIPL’s Jodhalli unit along with its two implementing agencies DCF and SNSF, to distribute the medical supplies and safety gear requested by government health facilities in the rural areas of Dist. Dharwad. The block level hospital at Kalghatgi Block, Rural Health Training Center, Village Dummawad, and two sub centres in the villages of Kalghatgi Block, were provided with 180 litres of ANSANITIZER hand sanitizers, 600 N-95 and 2000 surgical masks, 100 PPE kits, 2200 hand gloves, 50 face shields, 10 litres of Sodium Hypochlorite and 14 oximeters. Mr. Sumit Shetty, Head, Admin, DAIPL, Jodhalli, was present throughout the donation activities.

Rural India where two-thirds of the country’s population reside was badly battered by the second COVID-19 wave. Maharashtra, one of the worst affected states, continues to reel under its onslaught. Satara is also the location of DAILP’s plant. Thus, together with SNSF, DAIPL, under its CSR mandate, donated 60 litres of ANSANITIZER hand sanitizers, 50 N-95 and 200 surgical masks, 600 hand gloves, 34 face shields and 6 oximeters to the Primary Health Centre, Thoseghar, located about 30 kms from its plant. The centre addresses the health needs of nearly 11K people living in 22 villages. Mr. Mahesh Sutar and Mr. Prabhu Gurav from DAIPL, Satara, handed over the materials to Mrs Chavan, Medical Officer Thoseghar.

SNS Foundation under the DAIPL CSR organised the distribution of family ration kits at concessional rates for 108 families in the upcoming model village of Chalkewadi, Satara. Each kit comprised items like onions, potatoes, pulses, sugar, spices, oil etc, to sustain 4 members of a family with 3 meals per day for 30 days. Thus, 108 kits provided for about 35K meals for one month. Rice/wheat were not included as these were made available free under the regular public distribution system. The entire exercise from procurement, packaging and distribution was managed by two women belonging to a self-help group, who have opened grocery stores with bank loans facilitated through SNSF. The average cost of a kit was ₹1900, but villagers paid ₹50 to make it seem like a normal customer-supplier transaction, and not an act of charity.

COVID-19 data compiled from major Indian cities at the start of the second wave showed Nashik to be the worst hit in terms of infections per million residents. This led SNSF to step in and under the GIL CSR, provide medical supplies to 7 government rural health facilities in Trimbakeshwar Block, Dist. Nashik, including 6 primary health centres situated in the villages of Amboli, Rohile, Kulwandi, Thanapada, Shirasgaon and Mulwad and the rural hospital of Harshul. Annually, these health facilities address the health needs of a population of about 2.72 lakhs residing across 272 villages.

Altogether 4000 surgical and 500 N-95 masks, 400 hand gloves, 420 face shields, 700 PPE kits and 370 litres of hand sanitizer (ANSanitizer), 30 pulse oximeters, 14-infrared thermometers, 14-foot operated sanitizer stands were distributed. Mr. Parikshit Joshi, Head-HR, GIL Nashik Plant, and Mr. Santosh Nikam, Head-Quality Control, GIL Nashik Plant, participated in the activity along with members of SNSF.

Chakan is one of ANAND’s largest manufacturing hubs. The area is also home to thousands of migrant industrial workers left vulnerable during the second wave of COVID-19. This coupled with Maharashtra being one of the worst affected states in the country, led MATS and SNSF to team up and provide necessary medical supplies, safety gear and medical equipments to 5 government health facilities, including the Primary Health Centers in Pait, Karanjivihire and sub centre of Chimbali in Rajgurunagar Block and Primary Health Center of Adale and Kamshet in the Maval Block of Pune district. These health facilities serve a population of 2.29 lakhs living across 110 villages. A total of 125 liters of hand sanitizers, 500 N-95 & 1000 surgical masks, 350 PPE kits, 2700 hand gloves, 160 face shields and 27 oximeters were donated. MATS was represented by Mr. Suresh Chavan, from the company’s admin department.

The new classroom, financed by the CSR wing of Dana Anand India and SNS Foundation, was inaugurated, after a delay of almost a year due to the pandemic and heavy monsoon. This room will serve as an important meeting place for the women self-help groups in the village to brainstorm and discuss their development plans for the village.

Mr. Aravind Bapu, Vice President, Panchayat Samiti, inaugurated the room in the presence of other government representatives, school staff and village residents. The school was also presented with a digital learning facility.

Mrs. Anjali Singh, Co-Chairperson, ACMA Northern Region & Executive Chairperson, ANAND, moderated a session on the theme “Surviving Disruptions: Lessons on Business Continuity” at the first Townhall with ACMA Past Presidents.
