Supervisory Board in Place |
Anand management, right from the inception of its first company, has been in the hands of professional managers.
To make its management more transparent and in tune with global organisations, Anand established a Supervisory Board comprising three members. Besides advising, the Board also reviews and participates in the formulation of business strategies of the Group. |
|
Another recent initiative taken by Anand is the induction of professionals as additional independent directors on the boards of its various companies as well as in Advisory capacities. The objective is to promote good corporate governance, enhance shareholder value, drive Anand - with its eighteen companies - as a single entity and at the same time give a thrust to turnover to US$ 1.3 billion by the year 2010.
Currently eight independent directors including one woman - comprises entrepreneurs, CEOs, directors, consultants, academicians or scientists. Being people of repute, knowledgeable and dynamic with functional expertise, these professionals would support Anand management through value adding inputs in the following areas:
Corporate Governance
• Reinforce Anand Beliefs, Style & Anand Way
• Safeguard interest of all stakeholders
• Create empowered boards
• Ensure ethical & transparent value systems
• Infuse fresh vigour & purpose in the boardroom
• Ask hard questions
Mentoring
• Provide dispassionate advice to senior managers
• Mentor senior managers & act as role models
• Provide intellectual stimulant
Management Expertise

• Challenge operating management to excel
• Promote a culture of knowledge & innovation
• Provide functional expertise to help create strategies |
Mr Deep C Anand-Chairman of the Group, shared his plans with his Senior Management comprising the Group COO, Chief Operating Officers of all the Group companies and the Corporate Staff, in the following words : |
| |

“For forty six years, we have together built an enterprise of a substantial size. With great deal of fortitude and luck, Anand businesses have today grown to a revenue of US$ 634 million.
|
|
All our enterprises are managed by ‘home grown’ professional managers. This is personally rewarding for me as I have, from the very inception of our 1st Group Company, followed the ‘home grown’ dictum.
My Vision for posterity is to move Anand Automotive Systems from being a ‘leader in automotive components’ to becoming ‘the preferred partner in automotive systems’
The way forward will have enormous challenges and opportunities. We will continue to manage our 18 companies - though independent legal entities - as One Corporate Entity, irrespective of the shareholding.
We have strengthened our corporate function by establishing theposition of a Group CEO and have successfully managed our companies and businesses by achieving a turnover of US$ 634 million.
In addition, to deal with the complexities of business and growth, I i have brought on board several new independent members with specialised skills and knowledge who will act as role models to help realise my Vision”. |

Overseas
Board / Review Meetings |
In it's endeavour to
be a global player, Anand believes in having
the involvement of its international partners.
As a step towards realisation of this belief,
it now has board meetings in countries where
its collaborators are located.
a) Two Board Meetings are held every year
in May and September in Europe with
the European partners.
b) Two Board / Review Meetings in June in
the USA with its US partners. |
Integration of Managers with International Partners |
Anand believes in and is committed to develop global managers through integration of its people with its Strategic International Partners. In keeping with this belief, Anand has an ongoing programme, wherein 42 Anand managers has been on secondment overseas till date for stints ranging between 3 - 36 months.
In addition, some managers with the potential to be future leaders at Anand, are also sent abroad for advanced business management studies. |
Concept of Operating Engineers |
The concept of employing Operating Engineers (OEs) at Anand, first emerged in 1994. In view of the changing and competitive business environment which demanded world-class quality products, the Group realised the need for a 'knowledge workforce'.
Knowledge workers have the ability to learn and grasp things faster and apply the same at their workplace. This facilitates self-managed, team-based working as the knowledge worker also has a better attitude towards quality work by virtue of his/her education and training.
Thus, having knowledge workers instead of the traditional blue-collar workforce was not only futuristic but also inevitable in the prevailing business scenario.
On an experimental basis, Operating Engineers were first inducted at Gabriel India's Ambad plant. The results were encouraging and accordingly, a decision was taken to employ these youngsters to run machines in all plants. Today, the Group has 1800 Operating Engineers, out of which 27 % are women. They are Diploma holders in Engineering and those who show faster development, are positioned in different functions such as technical field support, marketing and technical upgradation. |
|
Anand has set itself a target of 30% women employees. Currently the figure stands at 14% but some of the more recently established companies and facilities of the Group, have close to 30% women.
What sets Anand apart? The policy is fair. Anand has no reservations in hiring women in any function but is equally demanding of women as it is of men. Irrespective of gender, Anand demands hard work, the drive to move ahead and a solid work ethos that encourages women to foray into an industry which is still considered, the main preserve of men.
Furthermore, the Group's Chairman, Mr Deep C Anand, is an ardent proponent of equal opportunity employment. He is a firm believer that both men and women are equally capable in assisting the growth of an enterprise. This belief has taken strong roots and induction of women has become an integral part of the culture at Anand. Today, there are women Engineers, Chartered Accountants, Corporate Communicators, Information Technologists, HR Managers, Marketing Professionals and Operating Engineers, with several of them even heading functions.
To ensure that women staying away from their families do not face problems of accommodation, health and personal aid, Anand has provided hostel, transport and medical facilities, especially for Operating Engineers. If required, counseling is also made available through its caring welfare arm - SNS-Foundation - which provides the support system needed for women at all times. |

Anand's Business Philosophy stipulates 30% of its total sales turnover for exports to World markets. The Group has been exporting established products like Shock Absorbers, Engine Bearings, Filters, Piston Rings and Gaskets for several years and in Piston Rings and Filters, has achieved an export of 30% of its turnover. Overseas customers of Anand include reputed companies in Europe, USA and Asia Pacific. With the establishment of its new joint ventures, Anand has now started export of Axles, Driveshafts, Slack Adjusters and Hydraulic Brakes. 'The total export sales in 2007-2008 in US$ 129 million, which in the current year are expected to be US$ 250 million by year 2010.
